In September BCT will stage the charming romantic comedy Bus Stop, which will bring American slice-of-life to Bangkok.
It’s 1955 in the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City, Missouri pulls up at a jovial roadside diner. All roads are blocked, and four weary travelers are going to have to stay up until morning. Under the direction of Michael J. Allman, the William Inge play, Bus Stop, comes to life at BNH’s conference room on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30PM (19:30).
A veteran cast headed by Prashanti Subramaniam and Ricardo Hizon bring to life these unique characters in theatre-in-the-round staging. Claudia Liu, Jolene Mathi, Charles Chester, Duane Hauch, Alvin Salvador, and Damon Douglass are the supporting cast members.
Cherie, (Prashanti) a nightclub chanteuse, is the passenger with the most to worry about. She’s been pursued, made love to and finally kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy (Ricardo) with a ranch of his own and the romantic methods of an unusually headstrong bull. The belligerent cowhand is right behind her, ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana. Even as she’s ducking out from under his clumsy but confident embraces, and screeching at him fiercely to shut up, she pauses to furrow her forehead and say, “Somehow deep inside of me I got a funny feeling I’m gonna end up in Montana”. As a counterpoint to the main romance, the proprietor of the cafe (Mathi) and the bus driver (Salvador) at last find time to develop a friendship of their own. A middle-age scholar (Hauch) comes to terms with himself and a young girl (Liu) who works in the cafe gets her first taste of romance.
A fun-filled frolic, Bus Stop, will give you an evening of pleasurable enjoyment!
